Cost $250 for all four workshops and  materials (size 18”X18” Includes rustic wooden frame, total 15 studio hours)

This ceramic sculptural mosaic measures 18” by 18” and is created by using handmade ceramic elements with broken mosaic tiles as a background. Once complete, your mosaic will truly be a piece of artwork that can be hung outside in a lanai or inside your beach house. You can choose from two different designs; a sea turtle or a crab.

Day/ Part 1, Friday, Jan. 25th 11:30am-2:00pm: Using low fired clay and a template, you will create the sculptural pieces of your mosaic. At this time, you may also want to include and create seaweed, shells or bubbles. We will discuss color options and design your own mosaic before next class.

Day/ Part 2,, Friday, Feb. 1st 11:30am-2:00pm: During this class, your ceramic elements have been fired and are now ready for you to glaze (paint). You will also have tiles to choose from for your background. We will have some tiles available that are already glazed and broken. However, you may decide to glaze additional tiles to your desired color scheme. All of your glazing will be done during this class since all ceramic pieces need firing before next class.

Day/ Part 3, Monday, Feb. 4th 10:00am-5::00pm: This is a long day class- needed to break and adhere all your mosaic pieces. After all, the Sistine Chapel wasn’t painted in a day! You may want to either pack a lunch or take a mid-day break because we will need all day to finish attaching the pieces of the mosaic. If needed, you can take your mosaic home to finish, however, will need to be complete no later than Tuesday since we need two days to dry before our last class of grouting on Thursday.

Day/ Part 4, Thursday, Feb. 7th 3:00pm-5:00pm: Last day is grouting day! Okay, I decided the last day, you all deserve a glass of wine! After we grout (using dark gray grout), we will walk around and admire our classmates mosaics in a short critique while we enjoy a glass of wine! Mosaics need to set and dry for a few days. Once dry, I will apply a sealant and attach the wooden rustic frame. You will be contacted within two weeks when pieces are ready for pick up.

Our mission is to teach everyone art and garden this season and have the best time creating!  We can also offer private parties, please call Janine for details and more info.
